ChatGPT

ChatGPT è un assistente basato sull'intelligenza artificiale sviluppato dall'azienda statunitense OpenAI. Chi lo usa scrive (o detta a voce) una domanda o una richiesta, e il programma risponde con testi, immagini, tabelle o altri contenuti. È stato reso disponibile al pubblico il 30 novembre 2022 e in pochi mesi è diventato il servizio di intelligenza artificiale più conosciuto al mondo, tanto da essere spesso usato come sinonimo di chatbot.

Il servizio si può usare gratis, con alcuni limiti, oppure con abbonamenti a pagamento che danno accesso a modelli più potenti e a più funzioni. Secondo Wikipedia, a febbraio 2026 contava circa 900 milioni di utenti attivi ogni settimana. Accanto al successo sono arrivate anche critiche: indagini sulla privacy, cause per diritto d'autore e denunce di famiglie che accusano il chatbot di aver danneggiato persone fragili.

Cosa fa

ChatGPT risponde a domande, scrive e corregge testi, traduce, riassume documenti, aiuta a programmare e analizza file e foto. Può anche cercare informazioni sul web, generare immagini e conversare a voce. Dal 7 ottobre 2026, secondo le note di rilascio ufficiali, le risposte possono includere elementi interattivi come grafici, pulsanti e moduli, una funzione che OpenAI chiama Intelligent UI. Le stesse note elencano strumenti sempre più vicini al lavoro d'ufficio, come la creazione di presentazioni, il collegamento con servizi esterni tramite plugin e un'integrazione con Microsoft Word. Il risultato non è sempre affidabile: il sistema può inventare informazioni con tono sicuro, per cui le risposte importanti vanno verificate.

Le tappe principali

Al debutto, a novembre 2022, ChatGPT usava il modello GPT-3.5. A marzo 2023 è arrivato GPT-4, a maggio 2024 GPT-4o, capace di gestire testo, immagini e audio, e ad agosto 2025 GPT-5, che sceglie da solo il modello più adatto alla richiesta. A ottobre 2025 Sam Altman ha dichiarato a TechCrunch oltre 800 milioni di utenti settimanali. A settembre 2026 OpenAI ha presentato la famiglia GPT-6, partendo dalla versione più avanzata, Astra, offerta a un gruppo ristretto di aziende, come riportato da Bloomberg Government. A ottobre 2026 GPT-6 è arrivato nella chat per tutti i piani.

Perché se ne parla

In Italia il Garante della privacy ha bloccato ChatGPT per alcune settimane tra marzo e aprile 2023 e nel 2024 ha multato OpenAI per 15 milioni di euro, contestando tra l'altro la mancanza di controlli sull'età. Secondo ItaliaOggi, a marzo 2025 il Tribunale di Roma ha sospeso la sanzione in attesa del giudizio. Negli Stati Uniti testate e autori hanno fatto causa per l'uso dei loro testi nell'addestramento, e diverse famiglie accusano il chatbot di aver spinto persone vulnerabili verso il suicidio: Fortune ha raccontato sette cause depositate a novembre 2025.
