Prompt

The request you give an AI: a question, an instruction, a text to work on. The clearer the prompt and the more context it carries, the better the answer usually is.

What a prompt is

A prompt is the instruction you give an AI model: a question, a request, a text to summarise, sometimes with images or files attached. The answer depends heavily on how it is written, because the model cannot ask what you meant; it works with what it reads.

Writing a better one

Four things almost always help: say who the text is for, state the task precisely, specify the format you want (list, table, three lines) and, if you can, add an example of what you like. "Tell me about Rome" gives a generic answer; "List five things to see in Rome in one day for a family with young children" gives a useful one.
