“Making money with artificial intelligence” is one of the most frequent searches, and also the one that attracts the most easy promises. The truth is less spectacular: AI does not create money out of nothing, but it saves time for people who already have a trade or an idea.

What really works
What works is using AI to do faster, or better, a job somebody already pays for: a graphic designer who prepares more drafts, a translator who revises instead of translating from scratch, a tradesperson who has quotes and replies to customers written for them, an online shop that improves its descriptions and support. The gain is the time freed up and the number of clients you can handle.
New services you could not offer before
Those who have a skill can broaden it: writers can also offer web copy and newsletters, video makers can add subtitles and versions in other languages, consultants can help small businesses introduce these tools. Here there is real demand, because many companies do not know where to begin.
What does not work
Filling the web with automatically generated content: search engines recognise it and penalise it. Selling digital products made in five minutes in markets that are already saturated. Relying on AI for investing or trading: it does not predict the markets, and anyone who promises that is selling something.
How to spot empty promises
Be wary of anyone who shows earnings without explaining the work behind them, who talks about “passive income” and a “secret method”, or who sells a course as the only way. The question to ask is simple: is the person telling me this earning money by using AI, or by selling courses on how to earn money with AI?
